ACHAIA CLAUSS, founded in 1861 by the Bavarian Gustav Clauss, is the oldest winery in Greece. It is famous for its sweet red wine “Mavrodaphne”, the winery's flagship, made from black grapes solely found in the northern Peloponnese. It is also famous for its Winecastle, an entire winery and residential complex with spire-shaped cathedral towers, in which in the mid 19th century the first oenological community was established and allowed an entire village to live, work and develop around the central core of the winery.
MILK Branding Professionals were requested to take over the project of the evolution of this historical brand, back in 2014. We crafted the new logo to achieve what the previous company’s logos did not: Encompass all crucial visual elements of the brand, those are the AWP initials, the Winecastle, the crest and the year of establishment. At the same time we made a bold decision. We defined purple as the new ACHAIA CLAUSS primary colour, to portray the company’s long heritage and high prestige. Finally we developed a detailed corporate housestyle which included the brand's important design assets and created the guidelines for the effective application of the new brand identity on all key touchpoints, including corporate communications materials and packaging.
In term of brand identity, we did what we should to make sure that Achaia Clauss legacy can live on, hoping that our work will inspire further improvement and positive steps towards the rennaisance of Gustav Clauss' vision.
